Nissan Armada Is Very New for 2025

Nissan revealed the redesigned  2025 Armada in early September.  In addition to new styling, the model brings several significant new changes.  Among the new features on the Armada are a new twin-turbo engine, Armada’s first PRO-4X model, multiple new technologies, redesigned interior and new styling for the exterior.  Dick Smith Nissan of Lexington gives the details.

All New Drivetrain

All 2025 Armadas will be powered by a twin-turbo, direct-injected 3.5-liter V6 engine. Rated for horsepower of 425 hp @ 5,600 rpm and peak torque of 516 lb-ft @ 3,600 rpm, the VR35DDTT engine offers 25 more horsepower and 103 more lb-ft of torque than the outgoing V8 in the outgoing Armada.  It also claims the highest standard horsepower among Armada's competitive set (excluding hybrids and EVs). The VR35DDTT features numerous technologies to help improve efficiency, including Idle Stop-Start and mirror bore coatings in the cylinders for reduced friction. 

The engine is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. This transmission has two more forward gears than the outgoing transmission and results in a 40% wider ratio range. Upshifts are quicker, and paddle shifters are standard, which can be very useful in mountain driving or just when you want to take control.

Introducing the Armada PRO-4X

The PRO-4X is a new addition to the Armada model line, and like other Nissan models with the name, it is equipped with features dedicated to increasing capability off the pavement.  In addition to standard Intelligent 4WD, the PRO-4X features:

• Electronic locking rear differential
• Adaptive Electronic Air Suspension
• 20-inch wheels with 275/60R20 all-terrain tires
• Metal underbody skid plate
• Unique front fascia reshaped for an improved approach angle.

The air suspension can raise the PRO-4X 2.1 inches above standard height, which results in:

• 6 inches of ground clearance
• 0-degree approach angle
• 5-degree breakover angle
• 5-degree departure angle

The Pro-4X features eight selectable drive modes (Standard, Eco, Sport, Tow, Snow, Sand, Rock, Mud/Rut), which adjusts several vehicle systems to optimize performance for the selected scenario.  Pro-4x drivers are kept informed by an Off-road Information Display, which features an inclinometer, slip indicator, and steering angle indicator. Standard across the model line, Hill Descent Control helps manage speeds when encountering a steep downhill.   

The air suspension can also lower the vehicle on the highway to improve aerodynamics and, when parked, ease entry and exit. Electronically adjustable dampers react to sensors monitoring road conditions to control roll, pitch, and dive and is also one of the systems that can be adjusted according to drive mode.

8,500-Pound Towing Capacity

The 2025 Armada has a standard towing capacity of up to 8,500 pounds. All grades include a Class IV tow hitch and a 7-pin harness/pre-wiring. PRO-4X and Platinum Reserve grades add an Integrated Trailer Brake Controller. By inputting the trailer length, the Blind Spot Monitoring system extends the blind spot to cover the length of the trailer.  

All-New Cabin

The dashboard is all-new and features a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display and an adjacent 12.3-inch center touchscreen.  The Premium Reserve model upgrades the center screen to 14.3 inches.  Other available cabin features include:

• Open pore wood finishing
• 64-color ambient lighting
• Quilted leather-appointed seating
• Heated, cooled, and even massaging and 12-way power-adjustable front seats.
• Heated 2^nd-row seats
• Choice of 2^nd-row 40/20/40 split bench or captain’s chairs

Standard on Platinum and Platinum Reserve grades and optional on PRO-4X, Biometric Cooling¹¹ uses a roof-mounted infrared camera to detect overheated front and second-row passengers and direct more cooling air toward them.

The third-row seat rear legroom has lengthened by 5.7 inches, and cargo space behind the seat is up 24% to 20.4 cubic feet. Dropping the third-row seat backs increases cargo room to 56.3 cubic feet, a 12% increase, and the maximum cargo capacity is 97.1 cubic feet.

Robust Safety and Driver Assistance Technology

Standard across the 2025 Armada model line is the Nissan Safety Shield® 360 suite of safety technologies, which include:

• Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
• Intelligent Forward Collision Warning
• High Beam Assist
• Blind Spot Warning
• Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention
• Lane Departure Warning
• Intelligent Lane Intervention
• Rear Automatic Braking and Rear Cross Traffic Alert

The 2025 Armada offers three different levels of driver assistance technology depending on the grade.  SV and PRO-4X grades provide  ProPILOT Assist, which combines Intelligent Cruise Control with steering assistance for easy driving on both the open road and in traffic. 

SL, Platinum, and Platinum Reserve models upgrade to ProPILOT Assist 1.1, leveraging onboard navigation information to adjust cruise control operation for curves and interchanges. ProPILOT Assist 2.1 is also available on these same models. This is Nissan's most advanced driver assistance technology, enabling hands-free operation while the system operates acceleration, steering, and braking on pre-mapped highways.  

Arriving in Late 2024

The 2025 Nissan Armada will be available in grades SV, SL, PRO-4X, Platinum, and Platinum Reserve. All but the PRO-4X come standard with rear-wheel drive with Intelligent 4WD as optionally available.   Models can expect to arrive in Dick Smith Nissan of Lexington inventory near the end of the year.  Prices will be announced closer to that time.
