Versa Proves You Can Get a Quality New Car for under $20,000

In a world where automakers are abandoning sedans, Nissan offers several models of them. Where automakers are dropping their affordable models left and right, Nissan has kept theirs. In fact, the average new car price is over $46,600, but Nissan was one of the very few to offer a model for under $20,000. It is the Versa, and it proves that you can get a good car for well under 20K, and you can find plenty to choose from at Dick Smith Nissan of Lexington

Most Affordable New Car In America

With a starting MSRP of $16,680, the Versa is the lowest-priced new car sold in the U.S. It certainly does not look like it, so no one has to know but you. It isn’t pint size, nor is it a minimalist 2-door hatchback. Instead, the Versa is a small 4-door sedan that looks much like its larger sedan siblings and has everything you need. For additional things you want, even the range-topping SR model with 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, sport cloth seats, and other features has a starting price of just $20,690 and will come fully loaded with additional niceties for under $23K.

Everything you Need

The Versa is a breath of fresh air for those who think cars are unnecessarily complex. You won’t find massaging seats or a center display the size of your living room flat screen. Still, you will find a 7-inch touchscreen, air conditioning, power windows and locks, Bluetooth Hands-free phone system, rear-view monitor, 4-speaker audio system, and even a Siri Eyes/Google Assistant voice recognition system. Compatibility with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ is not available on the base model, but it is part of a package on the next step up, the Versa S, and standard on the models above that.

For safety, it includes a multi-airbag system, anti-lock braking system, traction control, Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, and a rear automatic braking mitigation system. Adults can be carried in the rear seats, where they enjoy 31 inches of legroom. The trunk is nearly 15 cubic feet. The rear seat is fixed on the base model, but all others feature 60/40 split-folding seat backs for additional cargo-carrying ability.

Affordable to Operate

Under the hood is a 1.6-liter DOHC, 16-valve inline-4. Power may not be thrilling, but it is fully adequate at 122 horsepower and 114 lb-ft of torque. Keeping things efficient is an Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) or an available 5-speed manual transmission, both of which send the power to the front wheels. The system is designed to keep the Versa as inexpensive to operate as it is to buy with an EPA-estimated city/highway/combined mpg for 21 / 40 / 35 with the CVT, making it one of America's most fuel-efficient non-hybrid models. If you appreciate the control a manual transmission brings you, the mileage estimate is 27 / 35 / 30.

The Versa likely has everything you need in a car, with a few extras at a price that makes sense for anyone who wants to drive safely and with the confidence of a new car’s reliability and warranty. If that sounds like a car that fits your needs, Dick Smith Nissan of Lexington invites you to visit our location at 5536 Sunset Blvd for a Versa test drive.
